Geographic Scope

Most of the photographs are of North Carolina subjects, although some images are included of Cherokee heritage sites in Georgia and Tennessee, and traditional music venues and artists in Virginia. The North Carolina images document traditional cultures in all regions of the state. Mountain traditions are especially well documented, although the collection also holds extensive coverage of pottery traditions of the North Carolina Piedmont. Music, boat building, decoy carving, net making, crabpot making, fishing and numerous other subjects are covered in images from the eastern counties.
