These images portray scenes, people, places and historic events from the late 1800's through the 1960's. Events include Astoria's Centennial Celebration in 1906, Sesquicentennial in 1956, President John F. Kennedy's visit to the Astoria area in 1961, as well as a host of other historically significant visits including Rudyard Kipling and Clark Gable. Photos detailing the logging, fishing and canning industry from the early 1900's through the 1960's are also part of this project.

The geographic regions represented is broadly the Lower Columbia Rebion. The Lower Columbia Region, for purposes of this project, is defined as Clatsop and Pacific counties. Astoria, located in Clatsop County, is the oldest permanent U.S. settlement west of the Rocky Mountains.
